MITI Targets DC Fast Chargers for Every District in Selangor and Johor
Expanding Malaysia’s EV Infrastructure
The Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) is taking bold steps to accelerate Malaysia’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs). Collaborating with the Selangor and Johor state governments, MITI aims to ensure every district in these states is equipped with at least one DC fast charger.
Accelerating EV Adoption in Malaysia
This initiative, announced by MITI’s deputy minister Liew Chin Tong, is part of Malaysia’s strategy to achieve 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025. DC fast chargers are crucial for reducing EV charging times significantly, enhancing convenience for EV users.
Currently, Malaysia has 500 DC chargers, and MITI has increased its target to 1,500 units by 2025, aiming to achieve 4,000 stations nationwide by next year. The pilot project in Selangor and Johor will play a vital role in this expansion.
Progress in EV Charging Infrastructure
To date, the country boasts over 2,000 EV charging stations, including both AC and DC chargers. Earlier this year, Schneider Electric launched its first public EV charging hub in Petaling Jaya, equipped with a 180kW DC fast charger. In collaboration with JusEV, Schneider Electric plans to install over 100 chargers across Malaysia this year, with 10% being DC fast chargers.
Driving Malaysia Towards a Sustainable Future
With support from state governments, private enterprises, and strategic partnerships, Malaysia is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable transportation in Southeast Asia. These efforts will not only improve accessibility for EV users but also pave the way for cleaner, greener cities.
